If you’ve recently linked your bank account in RentRedi and noticed that the last four digits of your account number look different, this is expected for some banks.
What’s happening?
Some U.S. banks, including PNC, Chase, and U.S. Bank, use a security feature called account number masking or tokenization when connecting to third-party applications like RentRedi through services such as Plaid.
Instead of sharing your actual bank account number, your bank may generate a virtual or tokenized account number. This substitute number represents your real account while helping protect your sensitive financial information.
Because of this, the last four digits shown in RentRedi may not match what you see in your bank account. The account is still securely linked to the correct bank account.
Why do banks do this?
This is a built-in security measure designed to protect your financial information.
Your real account number is not fully shared with third-party applications.
A secure token or virtual number is used instead.
Even if data is exposed, your actual account details remain protected.
Masking or tokenization helps reduce fraud risk by limiting how sensitive data is displayed and transmitted.
Does this affect my payments?
Not at all! ✅ Even if the account number may appear unfamiliar:
Payments are still processed from the correct bank account.
Transfers and rent payments continue to work normally.
Timing, accuracy, and reliability are not affected.
How does this work with RentRedi?
RentRedi uses Plaid to securely connect your bank account.
You log in directly through your bank using Plaid within the RentRedi app.
Your bank authenticates the connection.
Plaid receives a secure token that is used to process payments in RentRedi.
This process ensures your sensitive information remains protected while allowing payments to be completed successfully.
