According to TransUnion, there are a few possible reasons you could receive SSN errors when an applicant submits their tenant screening:

1. "SSN may be invalid. It was either very recently or never issued by the Social Security Administration."

This means that the applicant wasn’t issued this SSN at birth. They most likely moved to the US or had to get a new SSN.

2. "SSN Mismatch. Input does not match file."

This means that the SSN the applicant entered is not the number TransUnion has on file for them.

It could be that the applicant has a completely different number or a couple of numbers got switched around when they were typing their SSN in. TransUnion recommends that you verify the applicant’s SSN with their card.
