Need to split rent between roommates or charge only specific tenants in RentRedi?
With RentRedi, you can easily create tenant-specific charges for rent, utilities, deposits, fees, and more. Simply choose which tenants should receive the charge — only those tenants will see and be able to pay it in their app.
Follow the steps below to get started! 👇
From your RentRedi dashboard, click the plus (+) Create New button on the left-hand side.
Under Charges, select Rent or Other Charge.
Enter the charge details:
Amount — Enter the rent or charge amount.
Lease Start & End Dates — Select the lease period for the charge.
Month-to-Month (Optional) — Check this box if the lease is month-to-month.
+ Schedule a New Lease (Optional) — Create a future lease schedule in advance. This is helpful for planned rent increases, lease renewals, or long-term tenants with upcoming lease changes.
Charge Every — Choose how often the charge repeats (monthly, bi-monthly, custom schedule, etc.).
On the — Select the due date for the charge.
Send Rent Reminders (Optional) — Enabled by default. Tenants will automatically receive reminders before rent is due (and every day after). This setting can be updated later if needed.
Require Tenants to Pay Oldest Charges First (Optional) — When enabled, tenants must pay any past-due balances before paying current charges.
Click Next to continue.
Select the Property & Unit and choose the tenant(s) who should see and pay the charge.
⚠️ Most Important Step ⚠️Select the only tenant who will be able to view and pay the charge. (Leave the other tenant unselected so they will not be connected to the charges you're making).
(Optional) Enable Credit Boost to report eligible on-time rent payments and help tenants build their credit history.
Click Next to review the charges.
Preview how the charges will be scheduled based on the amount, frequency, due date, and lease dates.
You can make final edits to the amount or description, duplicate charges, or delete charges, if needed.
Click Create Charges to finish.
Done! 🎉 Your charges have now been successfully created.
Helpful Tip 💡
If you have multiple tenants in the same property & unit and are creating separate rent charges for each tenant, you may see a prompt to Delete Overlapping Charges after the first setup.
To avoid removing charges you already created, be sure to select “No, Keep All Charges.”
This keeps the previously created charges while saving the new tenant-specific charges you’re adding.
Example: Setting Up Individual Rent Charges for 3 Roommates
Tenant A — No overlapping charge prompt.
Tenant B — You’ll see the overlapping charge prompt. Select “No, Keep All Charges” to keep Tenant A’s charges and save Tenant B’s charges.
Tenant C — Select “No, Keep All Charges” again to keep Tenant A and B’s charges while saving Tenant C’s charges.
