If you want tenants to pay both rent and late fees at the same time, you can bundle the late fee with the rent. This keeps the late fee accruing until the total amount is paid, encouraging timely payment of both charges.

Here’s how to set it up:

  1. From your RentRedi dashboard, type “late fee” in the search bar.

  2. Click the Late Fee Rules result.

  3. On the Late Fee Rules page, select the unit where you want to update the rule

  4. In the Save As section, choose how you want the charges to appear:

    • Create a Separate Charge: Shows Rent and Late Fee as separate charges — helpful if you want to track income types separately in accounting.

    • Add to Existing: Combines Rent and Late Fee into one charge — encourages tenants to pay both together.

  5. Select Add to Existing to bundle the rent and late fee into a single charge.

  6. Click the Save button in the top right-hand corner to set your auto-late fee rule!

Done! 🎉

💡 Pro Tip: Encourage Payment of Old Charges

You can also set your payment rules to require tenants to pay their oldest charges first. Using this with your late fee rule ensures:

  • ✅Tenants pay their oldest balance first.

  • ✅No late fees are skipped.
