If your landlord requests income verification as part of the tenant screening process, you may be asked to verify your income through Plaid.

Plaid is a secure financial technology service that can verify income using information from a connected bank account. Depending on the verification method, Plaid can identify income sources and provide information about recent and historical income.

If your bank isn't supported, you don't have a bank account you can connect, or you simply prefer not to verify your income through Plaid, you can decline this step and provide a message to your landlord instead.

How to Decline Income Verification

  1. Complete your rental application.

  2. Agree to and start the tenant screening.

  3. When you reach the Verify Your Income and Assets step, select "I Do Not Want to Verify Income."

  4. Enter a message explaining why you don't want to verify your income.

  5. Click Submit.

Your message will be provided to your landlord so they can review the information and decide how they would like to proceed.

Note: Skipping income verification does not automatically approve or deny your rental application. Your landlord will review your application and screening information and make the final decision.

If you choose not to connect your bank account, you can explain your situation in the message provided during the income verification step.
