RentRedi can automatically charge late fees when rent becomes overdue, helping you enforce your lease terms and reduce manual follow-up with tenants.
You can customize your late fee rules by setting grace periods, flat fees or percentage-based fees, recurring late fees, maximum fee limits, and even tiered late fee structures.
Follow the steps below to set up your late fee rules in RentRedi! π
Find Late Fee Rules
You can access your late fee rules in two ways:
Use the Search Box
Type "late fee" in the search box on your RentRedi dashboard, then select Late Fee Rules from the results.
Go Through Settings
From your RentRedi dashboard, click your name at the upper-right.
Click Settings.
Toggle to Feature Settings.
Under Automatic Late Fee Rules, click Add Rules.
Configure Your Rules
In your Late Fee Rules page, click + Add Rule.
Choose whether to apply the rule to all properties and units or to a specific property/unit.
Select how the late fee should be saved:
Add to existing: Combines rent and late fees into one charge
Create a separate charge: Keeps rent and late fees as separate charges
(Optional) Set a Max Late Fee (Total) amount in either dollars ($) or percentage (%). Leave the amount blank if you don't have a maximum limit.
Under Apply for, choose which charge type the rule applies to (such as Rental Income, HOA Fees, Parking, etc.).
Create your first rule:
Set the Days rent is late to define the grace period before the late fee applies.
Enter the Late Fee (1st time) amount as either a flat fee or a percentage.
(Optional) Add a Late Fee (recurring) if you want ongoing late fees charged daily, weekly, or monthly until the balance is fully paid.
Stack multiple rules (optional): Click "+ Add Additional Rule" to create tiered fees (example: 5% for days 1-5, then 10% after day 6)
Click Save Rule when finished.
Done! π
Note: Late fees are applied each morning when rent is late β not immediately when a payment is returned or when you first set up the auto-late fee rules.
